I'm McGaris and this is post-mortem.

As we're recording this, I've just returned from a couple of trips to Moscow and Amsterdam,

and I'm here to report on the state of international horror.

In short, it's good, really good.

Recently I've been in such varied places as Buenos Aires, Mexico,

and South Korea, and we'll be heading soon to Spain and other countries.

The reason for all of this travel, film festivals celebrating horror and fantasy films.

As someone whose entire career has been spent in this field,

I've been lucky enough to have been invited to participate in such festivals

for some time now and they are a phenomenon.

To my knowledge there are not global film festivals saluting Westerns or dramas or comedies or musicals,

but the horror genre appeals to a wide participatory crowd of fans,

fans who not only want to see the films, but embrace them,

to learn about how they're made, to celebrate them, and to share the experience.

They are not passive viewers. They are passionate

and active revelers in dark cinema, intelligent, knowledgeable, and filled with

enthusiasm. It's fascinating to meet both fans and filmmakers alike

around the world,

to experience the genre films from different cultures and nations,

to find that horror is celebrated as something special as more than just a bunch of

teenagers getting creatively slaughtered one by one as is the primary focus of
