So I'm very glad to be joined by Victor Davis Hanson, whom I know you all look forward to reading his pieces and hearing his commentary on what's happening. His most recent piece is called Our Long National Biden Nightmare

today. Thank you. Thank you for having me, Martha.

So we've had some breaking news this week, and it looks like there is now a deal emerging between

Hamas and Israel that will see the return of hostages, some living and some not living, tragically,

in return for the release of, looks like a thousand

thereabouts Palestinian prisoners that are being held by Israel.

What's your reaction to all this, Victor?

Well, I think everybody is relieved that the hostages are on a trajectory to be released, at least supposedly.

But I don't think it's quite like 1981.

The Reagan administration kind of played the role that Trump envisions himself doing,

that they were going to get much tougher so that the hostages were released.

And there was the idea that part of the release would mean that the

United States would not retaliate against Iran. And I think that might have been a mistake.

It's in itself, given what Iran did after that. But this deal has a lot more intricacies to it
