A highly anticipated meeting took place between Vice President J.D. Vance and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the Munich Security Conference in Germany today.

Sitting directly across from Zelensky, Vance told reporters he wants to, quote,

preserve the optionality for those working to negotiate an end to the war.

We want the killing to stop, but we want to achieve a durable, lasting peace,

not the kind of peace that's going to have Eastern Europe in conflict

just a couple years down the road.

Zelensky thanks the U.S. for its support following the meeting with Vance.

Really, we want this very much, but we need real security guarantees.

And we will continue our meetings and our war.

Prior to the meeting, Zelensky said joining NATO would still be the best security guarantee

for Ukraine and urged the U.S.

quote, not to make any decisions about Ukraine without Ukraine.

This comes as sources say the Kremlin is building a high-level negotiating team for direct

talks with the U.S. to end the war.

A U.S. citizen has been detained in Moscow for drug possession.

That's according to Russian state media agency tasks.
