The Trump administration is moving to fire thousands of probationary workers at federal agencies.

According to sources who spoke with CNN, employees received their termination notices via emails,

form letters, and video calls. Until recently, thousands of federal employees across

government agencies had only been placed on paid administrative leave. Sources say thousands of

federal health workers across agencies, including the CDC and the National Institutes of Health,

are also expected to be pushed out today. Widespread layoffs are part of President Donald Trump's plan to downsize the federal government,

although the cuts are facing several legal challenges.

In a key hearing today, a federal judge extended a temporary order blocking Elon Musk's government efficiency team

from accessing a critical Treasury Department payment

system.

In a lawsuit, 19 states' attorneys alleged the team staffed by young associates were unlawfully

granted access to sensitive data previously restricted to specific government employees.

The judge says she's still considering whether to issue a preliminary injunction in the case.
