Good morning, everyone. I'm Kate Baldwin. It's Wednesday, April 22nd. Here are the five things you need to know to start your day.

Number one, the indefinite ceasefire. The talks didn't happen. The VP didn't fly a cease, and the war still hasn't come to an end.

So that is what did not happen yesterday. What did is President

Trump extended the ceasefire with Iran indefinitely, just hours before it was set to expire,

and just hours after he said he was highly unlikely to do so. Overnight, Iran also held

pro-regime rallies in the streets there and rolled out what it says is a ballistic missile to put on display during it.

And now at least two container ships have been hit by gunfire in the Strait of Hormuz today, at least one reporting it was approached by an IRGC gunboat before being hit.

So the question you're likely asking, this leaves us where? That's a good one. No one really knows.

The Secretary of State, the VP, the Defense Secretary, they were all at the White House for

meetings lasting hours yesterday arriving within minutes of each other. So far, no one is on the way to Pakistan for more talks.

Iran wants the U.S. blockade of its ports

lifted before they start negotiating again, and Trump posted overnight that Iran is, quote,

starving for cash because it now can't move oil off its shores. That sounds like he's not

ready to budge. And there's new evidence of the impact that attacks on oil facilities and

ships is having satellite images show multiple oil spills in the region now.

Number two, the Virginia vote. It was a close one, but CNN projects Virginia voters have approved a new congressional map that gives new advantage to Democrats there, possibly allowing them to pick up as many as four

House seats in the midterms. A new leg up in 10 of Virginia's 11 districts. Right now, they

control six. This is the latest battle in the coast-to-coast redistricting war that kicked

really into overdrive last year. That's when President Trump pushed Texas Republicans to

redraw maps mid-decade.

Remember that? Well, then Democrats responded in states like California and so on and so forth.
