But I just want to share some thoughts on self-love and opening the heart practices

because I've had quite a journey with this work.

And when I was first getting into meditation and personal growth, I really thought all the self-love and heart-opening

practices were just fluff. It was something for people who really just wanted to be told

that, you know, you're okay just as you are. You don't need to change. And I was

interested in the real transformation. I wanted to see the root of my patterns. I wanted to cry

and confront my demons. And I just thought the heart opening stuff was honestly for people

who couldn't handle the real work. Boy, was I wrong.

But at the time, that was my thought process. And I remember going to a yoga class when I was 21,

which I was primarily doing to get flexible. And at the end of the session, one of the sessions,

the teacher said, now give yourself a hug and say, I love you.

And I just rolled my eyes and almost got up to leave, but I was sitting at the front of the class, so I did not want to make a scene.

And I followed along.

And I will never forget what I felt.

Nothing.

There was no warmth, no love, no emotional experience at all.
