Hello and welcome back to practicing human, the podcast where every day we're getting a little better at life.

0:07.1

I'm your host, Corey Miscara, and in today's episode, we are going to talk about the walls around your heart and what Rumi had to say about them.

0:18.5

More to come on that in a moment.

0:20.4

First, let's settle in together with the

0:22.6

sound of the bells. Okay. So... Okay, so let's start with a quote from Rumi, who said,

0:48.5

Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have

0:56.7

built against it. I've also heard some commentary that there may be an additional three words

1:06.4

to this, where it says fully, your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the

1:15.2

barriers within yourself that you have built against it and embrace them. So we're going to work

1:23.5

1:33.3

The first is that love is inherent to who you are and ever available.

1:42.1

It's not something you need to create, install, or discover, no matter how much

1:49.4

pain or trauma you've been through. It is your nature. It's not something that someone else

1:56.5

creates for you. They may help open you up to what is already here, but that is what's key.

2:06.3

This is already within you.

2:09.2

And I think this is just a really potent and also beautiful reminder because I don't know about you, but at least for me, it can be very easy to forget this.

2:23.7

Maybe we've never even had the perspective that this could be true at all.

2:29.0

But when we're caught up in our day to day, part of the development of the ego structure is to be looking at all

2:40.5

things externally or things internally that are the cause of our unhappiness and it also then

2:49.9

conditions the belief that if I just changed that if I

2:54.1

just had more of that if I could just get that person then I'll be happy and then

3:00.8

maybe I'll really get to experience love but rarely is it taught to us that this space and this experience of love is inherent to who we are.
