So it's really nice to meet you and welcome to the show.

Can you start by introducing yourself

and who you are and maybe just give a little bit

of background to this particular project,

resisting Canada. I know it came out in 2019, but it really kind of intersects with not only

your academic work, but the fact that you are yourself a poet and kind of your unique personal background.

So maybe if you could just elaborate on that a little bit.

Sure.

Well, I'm no longer an academic.

I did a master's degree many, many years ago.

And it wasn't, it wasn't about indigenous studies it was actually a critique of Charles Taylor's idea of

moral sources and an art but, so I'm a poet, I live in Toronto. I have two books of poetry with

Montreal's Vacuell Press that came out in 2012 and 2016. The anthology resisting Canada came out in, as you said,

2019. Vakeel Press had actually approached me to consider working on this project, which they had initially

started with the poet sonnet Labe who teaches in British Columbia.

She teaches creative writing in English and she is a poet, but she for various reasons wasn't able to continue with the project.

So she had an initial list of poets she thought might contribute and the idea of resistance poetry was not it was less it was it was

about resistance but it had a sort of different dimension at the time that it was conceived by sonnet.

And so I took on kind of that list and I created a different list, which was similar.

It had some of the same poets on it and put this together just based on research into resistance poetry,

knowing already some resistance poetry
