Summary

Bill Sammons wanted to start a Christian radio station, but there was a lot of opposition in his Delaware town. So much so, that Bill was attacked by a man named Spyro. He was beaten and thought he was going to die. That's not the end of the story, though. Through God's help, Bill was able to launch the station, and Spyro did a full turnaround and even requested to be baptized by Bill's father who was a pastor.

the radio and TV guys were covering three or four, five, six stories a day. And the newspaper

director, and I did that for a while. I went on to an all-news radio station in Wilmington, Delaware,

and ended up then at a CBS affiliate TV station in Maryland doing television news for four years.

But there was just something about that that was missing.

And I think I was by this point in my career after three or four years in radio,

1:25.7

realizing that what was missing was the faith element in this.

1:29.5

And I just started dreaming about owning one day, owning and operating a Christian radio station.

1:36.9

Now, at that time, Christian radio stations didn't sound like most of them sound today.

1:41.9

They weren't music intensive and they just block programming,

1:46.4

a lot of talk, a lot of preaching, and targeted a more older demographic. And in my head,

1:52.9

I was hearing an all-music contemporary Christian radio station. And back in the late 80s and the

90s, when I was dreaming about this, there weren't very many of them in the country.
