Today you'll be hearing some unexpected stories from the history of Ireland, courtesy of the author Turtle Bumberry. Earlier this year, a Turtle published Ireland's forgotten past, a colourful collection

of 36 lesser-known moments from the

nation's history. I called him to find out more. Your book is a somewhat whimsical journey

through 36 snapshots from Irish history. What captured your imagination about these

stories in particular? Well, I live, where I live now,

where I'm looking at is the glorious green Irish countryside, sun-dappled today, and I live

very close to the foot of the Wicklow Mountains. I can see County Wexford where the Normans

and the Vikings once held power. And I've always been, you always been very fascinated by all the history of the landscape that surrounds me right over, through my window.

I can see an overgrown ring fort covered in primroses and bluebells.
