I used to be very afraid of developing some kind of a disease. I used to be very afraid of the

judgments of other people. I used to be afraid if I only slept seven hours instead of eight. I used

to be afraid of how my fear was going to manifest throughout the day. There was a lot of symptom

stress in my life, the fear of fear. And so it became chronic after a while and one attached to

the other. And it's spider web from one thing to the other. And I really couldn't find any joy

in my life. Forget joy. I couldn't find any emotional neutrality, any mental neutrality. Until

I started recognizing the difference between having awareness versus paying attention.
