What exactly can we do? What's in our power? How can we build better? The first thing you can do is demand better before you buy something. Don't accept somebody else's garbage that they're passing along to you. For example, if you're looking at a house, a new house, new construction, if they're touting this house is built to code, what they're really telling you is, I took the minimum standard I was allowed to build this house to, and that's what I'm

presenting to you. Here is this house built to the minimum standard. I like to drill down a little deeper

and say to them, okay, what hazards did you consider when you were building this house, and how did

you build this house to withstand those? We live in a neighborhood that floods. Tell me my vulnerable

areas, and what did you consider? We live in an area with hurricanes. Tell me my vulnerable areas and what did you consider?

We live in an area with hurricanes. What wind did you build it to? If you live in an area with

earthquakes, what did you factor in when you were building this house that would withstand
