retired artilleryman. CBS News visiting scholar, visiting professor Dickinson College, the CEO

made a very clear reference to China. These days of dealing with the knowns and unknowns

about the Chinese surveillance balloon. One report, Jeff, is underlining that the balloon

is part of an operation run by the PLA Navy at PLA Army. That this is a military operation

for surveillance. So was the second balloon over Costa Rica, Colombia, perhaps Venezuela.

There are other balloons being reported all the time right now.

The president's response was to order the balloon shutdown when it cleared the coast

of the United States. China has both a policy. We're not apologizing. Said it was a meteorological

research. Then it said that it would retaliate for the shoot down and now it's being belligerent

again. How do you measure the Chinese provocation of this balloon? Given that we didn't shoot

it first, we hesitated. It became a major story. What did we learn about the Chinese intention?
