Leaker Street, New York City. I welcome Harry Segal, columnist at the New York Daily News,

a senior editor at the City and online journal. Leaker Street in 1970, when I first arrived

in New York, was a colorful member of the counterculture, so called in 1970. The war, the Cold War,

the alienation, civil rights, college students with long hair, no rules on Leaker Street.

And marijuana was in the air everywhere along Leaker Street. This is the summertime.

And the young men, mostly I remember all young men, standing on the curbside or on the

steps of the beautiful brown stones needing repair. We're called dealers. 52 years later.

Harry, a very good even two year, most recent column points out same bleaker street, same

marijuana, probably a better grade, but a conflict between Albany, the governor and the

legislature, and the enforcement mechanism of New York City and the wish for customers

to buy marijuana. The wish for dealers to make, excuse me, wholesalers or retailers to make

them a profit. The wish for the city and the landlords to reap a part of that profit,
