I welcome John Hardy of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies,

watching the Ukraine-Russia conflict for the Long War Journal.

We go immediately to headlines that seem promising,

but then again the waring has become escalatory.

The headline that is promising, Russia and Ukraine reached deal on new POW swap and handover of bodies.

Russian and Ukraine said they had agreed at peace talks on Monday, that's within these hours,

to exchange more prisoners of war and return the bodies of 12,000 dead soldiers.

John, a very good day to you. I leave the positive news in Istanbul and go immediately to the

story that dominates the news over these last hours, which is the Ukrainian attack using

drones on several Russian airfields, including video. I've only seen one version of the destruction

of what we're told are nuclear capable, that is, strategic bombers of the older variety,

TU95s and others, on the airfields

serially, bang, bang, bang. Also with the word fail-safe appearing in the middle of the

screen on the ones that I saw. It was a loop. Everybody could see it. And it was a surprise,

and we learned that the Ukrainians had been preparing for this for some time.

The presumption was they'd flown drones long distance, but that turns out not to be the case.

What do we know?

What is confirmed and what is not confirmed about the destruction of those bombers?
