Gregory Copley, editor and publisher of Defense and Foreign Affairs, the author of the new book, Noble State, joins me to comment on breaking news from Europe. Financial Times, London reporting,

Putin agrees 30-day halt to strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure in call with Trump. There's also

some talk about a ceasefire in the Black Sea. However, an overall ceasefire waits on events and caveats.

Gregory, a very good evening to you.

The president of the United States calls the president of the Russian Federation,

and they use the word ceasefire, and people who are not hanging up, and they're not

turning away.

There will be additional negotiations. Is this the good news it

appears? Good evening to you. Good evening, John. Well, yes, it's the start of the good news,

if you like. Bearing mind that Moscow never really rejected the concept of a ceasefire and neither did

Washington. The only one who rejected a ceasefire was Volodymy Zelensky, the president of Ukraine.

So essentially, this is a step forward.

And the Russians have already agreed to some terms, like not striking at Ukraine's infrastructure and the like, that would be extremely

positive as a sign of goodwill. We haven't seen how Ukraine will react to that yet, although

Ukraine has become more subdued since President Zelensky found that he didn't have anywhere else to go.

But I think what was more important was the veiled, if you like, threat which came out of those

phone talks between President Trump and President Putin, was that they agreed to once again

normalize their country's diplomatic relations.

And although the countries have remained in diplomatic contact,

we know that this has been a very stressful period in those relations during the Biden administration

for the past four years. So this is actually very significant, and it shows that, in a sense,
