I'm John Goshin with my good colleague Simon Constable who writes for

parents in the Wall Street Journal and other distinguished publications and

I call upon him now as a man who's lived in

at least four different kinds of democracies over his adult life.

United States, yes, England yes, Scotland yes, and now France, and we could subdivide them, but I'm going to focus

on the UK election, the general election called for July 4th.

Simon, what is a particular battle between labor and conservative is Scotland itself.

These were traditional labor constituencies who voted heavily for SMP, Scottish National Party, under the previous

administrator, the previous first minister of Scotland with the the and there's been a lot of turmoil on the S&P in disgrace for perhaps financial irregularities

and also the previous first minister was defamed her husband and she faced arrest. I've lost track of that melodrama. Mr. Ramza Yusef,

Mr. Hamza Yusef, sorry, replaced the first minister and became first minister for a while he's now, I believe,

left his post, although I don't have up to date.

And there's a new team in, I don't know them, but they look more traditional. However, I'm not going to expand on

that because they're not running for election. It's the parliament in its Whitehall is running

for re-election.

How do you measure now the way Scotland is responding?

We've both read remarks by Lord Ashcroft's poll.

People are very unhappy with the SMP, but is that an National very little bit but talking socialism.

It is very interesting this.

I would, before we get into the labor versus the SMP situation, I would really draw parallels

between the chaotic running of the Scottish Parliament by the
