Summary
At first glance it may seem like it’s a ‘bad’ or ‘unhelpful’ thought that’s holding you back from finding your perfect partner, landing your dream job, reaching the next revenue goal in your business, or having the kind of friendships you’ve always wanted. But upon further inspection, you may find that this thought is actually doing important, protective work in the background - especially if it’s one that you’ve tried time and time again to shift with no success.
Listen to this week’s podcast episode to learn how changing your thoughts about your thoughts can be just as transformative as changing the thoughts themselves, what rejecting yourself ahead of time may be protecting you from, and the importance of looking at both sides of a belief.

| 0:00.0 | Welcome to Unfuck Your Brain. The only podcast that teaches you how to use psychology, feminism |
| 0:13.8 | and coaching to rewire your brain and get what you want in life. And now here's your |
| 0:19.3 | host, Harvard Law School grad, feminist rock star, and master coach, Carla Lohanthile. |
| 0:26.3 | Hello, my chickens. So today's podcast episode is a little bit meta. And here's what I mean |
| 0:38.1 | by that. We're going to be talking about thinking about our thoughts. This is actually a huge, |
| 0:43.8 | huge issue in thought work. And one of the things that happens sometimes is that we actually |
| 0:48.8 | don't even realize that are thinking about our thoughts matters. So we'll be doing |
| 0:53.4 | thought work on our thoughts. And then we will have the idea that any of our thoughts about |
| 0:58.2 | that process are somehow just true. So we'll have a thought that we shouldn't be having |
| 1:05.5 | these thoughts. And we'll just think that that's true. Or we'll have a thought that our |
| 1:09.8 | thought is unhelpful and bad and that we need to get rid of it. And we'll think that |
| 1:13.5 | thought is just true. Right. So we'll be like, oh, my thought about my kids isn't necessarily |
| 1:19.4 | true. But the thought I have about myself or having that thought about my kids is true. |
| 1:24.1 | Right. So our relationship to our thoughts actually can be more important than the thoughts |
| 1:30.1 | themselves. If the only thing that you ever did was just stop judging your thoughts, |
| 1:37.4 | like if you just changed the thoughts about the thoughts, if you just were able to look |
| 1:41.4 | at your baseline thoughts without judging them, that would change your life all by itself, |
| 1:47.3 | and without changing any of them. So this kind of meta level, the meta thought, the thoughts |
| 1:52.3 | about the thoughts are actually super important, sometimes more important than the thoughts |
| 1:56.7 | themselves. And when we believe that a thought that we're having is negative or unhelpful, |
| 2:02.4 | we're giving us a bad result, we want to change it. We're judging it and resisting it. |
| 2:08.0 | Now I do teach you how to evaluate what results you're getting from your thoughts, especially |
