Should we all stop being so gloomy about the UK economy?

Should we stop going on about collapsing public services,

a cost of living crisis and wages which stagnated for 13 years?

Well, that's the message from our Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt today.

He's been giving a speech, arguing against declineism

and pointing to the bright side of the British economy.

It wasn't always convincing.

His message, it's time to cheer up about the British economy.

Declinism about Britain is just wrong.

It's always been wrong in the past and it's wrong today.

Some of the gloom is based on statistics

that don't reflect the whole picture.

Like every G7 country, our growth was slower in the years

after the financial crisis than before it.
