It's not going to come as a surprise to any of you that I've spent more time than a

psychologically healthy trying to argue with racists.

And I'd like to say that I'm motivated by purely political belief that I want to build

a better world.

But if I'm honest, there's probably some deeply neurotic bit of my brain which thinks that

if I could only get these people to recognise our shared humanity, I could finally be free

of the pernicious tentacles of internalised racism that have tangled up my self-esteem.

Needless to say, it hasn't yet succeeded.

But what even are we talking about when we talk about race?

How did certain clusters of physical features, skin colour, hair colour and texture become

the basis of how we categorise the human species?

Race science is making a screaming comeback.

From the 14 words which rephrase an adult Hitler quote, to scare mongering about white

genocide in the face of changing demographics, the idea that race purity's under threat

and must be violently defended is gaining momentum.

So how are we to fight back against the return of race science?

I'm delighted to be joined by Dr Adam Rutherford, genesis author, broadcaster and all-round

science populariser.

His academic at UCL, co-presenter of the curious cases of Rutherford and Fry on BBC Radio

4, and the author of How to Argue with a Racist, his new book Control, The Dark History and
