Hey, everybody, welcome to the well. I'm, of course, your host, Dylan Bowman,

and this week I am very excited to share my

recent conversation with Portland's own Tyler Green after his amazing speed record achievement

on the Wonderland Trail, which is a 90-ish mile circumnavigation of Mount Rainier in Washington State.

I was very surprised to learn that this was Tyler's first ever podcast interview.

So it was in honor to have him on the show.

He is very much a known quantity here in the Pacific Northwest,

but has managed to fly under the radar in his quick and impressive ascent in the sport of ultra running.

It's probably a result of him being just a humble and soft-spoken guy, but he really is a great

athlete. And I think now, especially after his FKT and moving forward, he'll start really getting the attention and respect that he deserves.

So it was great to have him on the show and start moving things in that direction.

And while I plan to have Tyler on the podcast eventually, recent events required us to sit down with some level of urgency. And for those who

don't know, here's the brief intro to the story just to set up our interview. Tyler and I, as I said,

both live in Portland and in the era of coronavirus without races to train for, we both set personal

objectives to break the fastest known time on the Wonderland Trail this summer.

I made my attempt on Wednesday, August 19th, and was able to break the existing record by

about 90 minutes, which was held by Ryan Gelfi from

2018. And then five days later, Tyler came on Monday, August 24th and was able to lower my

mark by an additional 18 minutes, setting a new, astonishing, fastest known time of 16 hours and 40 minutes

on this spectacular, brutal, and beautiful route. Now, I'm not going to lie, having my record

broken so quickly was actually pretty demoralizing.

I was pretty down for a couple of days, but this conversation was really uplifting for me.
