Thank you. Great to be here, man. So in a previous iteration of a text message chain,

you and I were having, we're talking about how you as someone who was bathed and washed in the blood

of the Democratic Party and me who came up in the Republican Party

are proving in real time that the theory of horseshoe politics actually does exist that if you go

far enough in either direction or the rest of the world goes insane, you will eventually meet

someone you never expected to find in your neighborhood. So here we are together. Welcome.

Thank you. I mean, as I've said before, but we'll always repeat. I used to debate your late

father and on TV, which is hilarious because again, cantankerous with each other and then friends

after. But the point is we disagreed on, you know, he was relatively moderate, I think.

We agreed on some things, disagreed on some things. But that's the thing is I was relatively

moderate too. And I, you know, I'm sorry, I don't want to steal old Ronald Reagan lines or other

lines, but like, you know, I don't feel like I have gone to the left so far. I have. There's no doubt. I've moved to the left. But it's that I look around and I'm like, when you see every institution that you once supported failing you, and you see somebody, if you study history, which I did way too many years in grad school, without

ever writing a dissertation, so I don't really have much to show for it. But if you, you know,

and I studied the rise of conservatism, and if you made those parallels and sat there compared,

you know, and saw how this happened in other countries, and you ever said yourself,

couldn't happen here, and we're sitting here watching

as all this is going on and as the economic conditions have so markedly changed that there are now

people that make six-figure incomes even who can't afford to send their kids to college you can't

afford child care if you're on a working class income you can you can't afford to eat often I just I don't understand how that can't afford child care. If you're on a working class income, you can't afford to

eat often. I just, I don't understand how that can't change people's, doesn't change people's

perspective. How can you look at it as let's tend to the system? The system is completely broken,
