So don't know if you've ever noticed in life?

Sometimes there can be a really big gap between what we think we know and what we actually know.

And I'm defining the difference here by, you know, there's our intellectual understanding and knowledge of things.

Maybe we read some books about it. Maybe we went to some talks about it. Maybe we've thought a lot about it and come to some conclusions in our mind.

We have some opinions or beliefs.

So that's our intellect, our sort of thinking mind.

And then there's the experience of it itself, how it actually feels and manifests in our life. So for example,

we might know that we don't like the feeling of anxiety or that it's not helpful to be anxious,

and yet we still feel anxious we've read lots of

books about it but it doesn't seem to change that feeling or it may be feeling

angry sort of consistently angry at another person or something like that and we know it's not helpful

we know it's not particularly friendly and yet that doesn't change the experience of anger.

There's something really interesting in this gap between the two.

It's almost as though we could go through life thinking that because we think we know that we know but it's only in letting go of that

thinking that we are able to make it part of our experience.

Whenever I think of this topic I always think back to beginning life as a monk and you know I'd read a lot

I've been to a lot of talks I'd have my head shaved I was wearing the robes of a monk and

everything else and kind of thought I knew what it was all about.

But as I look back now, I really didn't know at all.

You know, I had the information in my mind mind but that information hadn't become part of my life.
