There are truths about the administration of justice in our country, which lurk in

the shadows, and oftentimes these truths never see the light of day.

Do primarily to the fact that they occur within the cold concrete walls of county jails

and prisons, and in the same way that the pretrial detainees and prisoners are controlled

and contained within these bleak metal and concrete structures.

The secrets that lie within are closely guarded by those in power out of necessity, self-preservation,

and fear of crippling liability.

Now the abuses I'm speaking of for the purposes of this exercise will be relating specifically

to pretrial detainees, those who have either not been granted the ability to bond out while

they await trial in their cases, or those who have had a bond set but simply can't afford

to pay it, thus they must sit in jail, oftentimes for years awaiting trial.

Just to be clear, the psychological and physical abuses that I will speak on most certainly

occur in prisons all over this country consistently.

But frequently these complaints coming from inmates fall on deaf ears, most certainly

within the prisons themselves, which of course is not surprising, is they are complaining

to the very people that are abusing them, or the people that are employing their abusers.

And as far as the public goes, well, the complaints are easily ignored because those being abused

are many times not people that garner sympathy from the public or the media for that matter,

due to the fact that the abused are convict and felons, some of which are those who have

committed unspeakable violence against others, so it is a much, much more tenable proposition

for us, mentally, to think to ourselves, well, they deserve it, or even that the treatment

of these people may be justified, but they don't deserve it, and it's not justified,

...
