Even though this update is going to sound purely evil, I'm going to explain why it's really just terrible timing. The home insurance industry in North Carolina is asking the state for permission to raise the average cost of home

insurance by over 40%. Now, a price increase like that is bad all by itself. But keep in mind,

there are still thousands of people in North Carolina right now

that don't have clean water or electricity running into their homes. And thousands of people

who don't even know if they'll ever be able to move back into their houses after the insane

floods that Hurricane Helene brought. So why would the insurance companies ask to raise prices on their customers while so many are still struggling?

Well, I never thought I'd say this. To be fair to the home insurance companies, this request to raise premiums for home insurance was actually filed back in January.

So even though the optics are terrible, this wasn't a purely evil move.

But this is a perfect example of why some government regulation is good. If there wasn't a governing
