All it took to kick Russia and Ukraine out of the first headline slot was the United

States' potentially first black Supreme Court justice.

Yesterday was the first day of Senate confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Katani Brown

Jackson.

In her opening statement, she promised to decide cases from a neutral posture without fear

or favor.

That's a quote from the judge.

You guys know I don't.

Talk like that.

The next two days will involve questioning from members of the Senate Judiciary Committee,

while Thursday will feature testimony from outside witnesses.

I bet we'll even hear from some actual lawyers this time, instead of, you know, Tobin,

Squee and the people of praise.

Now let's talk about Russia and Ukraine.

At 5 a.m. on Monday morning, Russia demanded that the city of Mariupol surrender, an ultimatum

which the Ukrainians rejected.

Meanwhile an attack on a major shopping mall in Kiev left at least eight people dead,

while the fighting appears to realistically be reaching a stalemate, despite the continuing

casualties.
