The big news from yesterday is that the Supreme Court declined to hear a legal battle over

the rights of transgender students.

This specific case involved a transgender student named Gavin Grimm, who's school district

forbid him from using the boys' restroom.

The Court's decision not to take up the case does not establish a national precedent.

What is its signal agreement with the lower court, which said that the school board

had practiced sex-based discrimination and violated the 14th Amendment by prohibiting Grimm

from using the bathroom that aligned with his gender identity.

The Court also did not say why it was rejecting the appeal from the school district, though

Justice Zalito and Thomas said that they would have been willing to hear the case.
