The biggest news from over the weekend is the continued rescue mission taking place

at the massive condominium collapse right outside Miami at Champlain Tower South.

The death toll rose to nine on Sunday as authorities continue to search through the

rubble for survivors, and as of now at least 150 people are still unaccounted for.

Based on at least two occasions since the collapse, first responders have had to halt

their search efforts because of weather conditions, specifically lightning strikes in the area,

and more thunderstorms are forecasted for the coming days.

Meanwhile, officials have begun to receive extra help from Israeli and Mexican rescue teams.

In the days since the collapse, the sister tower of the building, Champlain Tower's North,

was inspected on Sunday and found to be structurally sound.

However, it was built by the same developer with the same design and was built just one

year apart.

This collapse came three years after engineering consultants were told that about $9 million

in major repairs were needed, and many owners of condo units in the building were days away

from starting to make payments towards those repairs.

According to that same engineering consulting group, one of the factors behind the collapse

was that the waterproofing under the pool deck had failed, and had been improperly laid

flat instead of sloped, which prevented water from jaining off.
