Let's get you caught up with today's seven stories.

The undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens will get new legal protections.

This new policy will be announced by President Biden today at a White House celebration.

Previously, people who married American citizens but had crossed the border illegally had to leave the U.S. for up to 10 years.

Only then could they apply to return.

Many immigrants considered that penalty excessive,

and it threatened to separate them from their families in the US.

But now about 500,000 immigrants will be able to apply for legal residency without having to leave.

This is a big move from the Biden administration.

We're just months away from November's presidential election, and immigration has become an

important and contentious campaign topic.

Earlier this month, Biden announced a crackdown on illegal border crossings.

Meanwhile, his Republican rival for the presidency, Donald Trump, has threatened to carry

out mass deportations if he wins back the White House.

Number two, a brutal heat wave will hit the Midwest, the Ohio Valley, and the northeast today.

Extreme heat is forecast for Chicago, St. Louis, Detroit, Cincinnati, New York, Boston, and other locations.

Yesterday, New York City Mayor Eric Adams spoke to reporters about the Heat.

This is extremely hot for June.
