The FBI is investigating suspected campaign hacking attempts.

I'm Hannah Jewel. It's Tuesday, August 13th. Let's get you caught up with

today's seven stories. The FBI said yesterday that Iranian hackers had targeted the Trump campaign and the Biden

Harris campaign.

The Bureau said three staffers on the Biden Harris campaign had received fishing emails.

They were designed to appear legitimate but could have given an intruder access to the recipient's

communications.

So far, investigators have not found evidence that the hacking attempts were successful.

And as we told you in the podcast yesterday, the Trump campaign said on Saturday that it had been hacked. That announcement came after reporters

received copies of a vetting document about Trump's running mate, Senator

J.D. Vance of Ohio. The FBI's hacking investigation raises the stakes for the presidential contest.

This campaign is already rife with accusations of dirty tricks and election interference.

And any successful hacking attempts could raise questions about the government's ability

to assure a fair election in November. Number two, a chat between Donald Trump and Elon Musk on X was hit by technical difficulties.

Musk is the billionaire owner of X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

His conversation with the Republican presidential nominee had been heavily advertised on the platform.

But yesterday, things went wrong pretty much immediately.

The chat started more than 40 minutes late.

Musk blamed the delay on a cyber attack,

but he provided no evidence to support that claim.
