But anyway, we're in First Kings chapter 13 today.

And I'm going to cover just a short section of six verses, but this is a powerful passage of scripture.

We've talked about Jeroboam and the fact that he is now the king of the Northern Kingdom,

but we've also talked about how he is compromising from the very beginning.

Why? Because of fear. Jeroboam has been given this great promise from

God, this promise that if he'll just follow the Lord, God will secure his kingdom and God will bless him

forever. But instead of taking counsel from the word of God and putting faith therein, what Jeroboam is doing is actually taking counsel of his own fears and projecting those fears on other people and creating an entire religious system that's founded on fear and the flesh.

I think it's important for us to understand that fear in the Bible is not the opposite of boldness.

Fear in the Bible is the opposite of faith.

So as we have faith in God's word, fear goes away.

That's why Paul said to Timothy, God hath not given us the spirit of fear,

but of power and of love and of a sound mind. So as we understand who we are in God, as we

understand the authenticity of God's promises to us,

the reality of God's power in our life via His Holy Spirit,
