Hey, good morning. It's Patricia Murphy. It's Thursday. This is Seattle now. Like a lot of us,

local politicians have spent the week talking about the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

Here in Washington, the Democratic and Republican parties are still figuring out how to navigate

the situation and what it might mean for their messaging.

Fact is, it's getting hotter every summer in our state. Today, King County Executive Dow Constantine

plans to talk about a new extreme heat strategy.

It includes 20 immediate and long-term actions like increasing urban tree canopy, creating

community cooling locations and updating building codes. In 2021, more than 400 people in our state

died from direct and indirect heat-related causes during a week-long heat dome.
