I'm Charles Coleman Jr. in for my friend Ali Velshi, and we begin this hour with new developments in investigation into Wednesday's deadly ambush of two National Guard

members who were on patrol near the White House.

Specialist Sarah Bextrum and Staff Sergeant Andrew Wolf were both shot in the attack,

which officials are now calling a targeted shooting.

Bextram died Thursday night from her injuries, and Wolf remains in critical condition.

Bexstrom's death prompted D.O. The U.S. attorney for D.C. to announce upgraded charges of first-degree

murder against the suspect. And she added, quote, there are certainly more charges to come.

The alleged gunman is in custody. He is an Afghan national and refugee who once served as part of an elite CIA-trained counterterrorism unit alongside American troops in Afghanistan.

Now, he initially arrived in the United States under humanitarian patrol in 2021 during the Biden administration and was granted asylum in April of this year under the Trump administration.

President Trump has blamed the attack and the suspect's presence in the country on Biden-era vetting,

and he's responded by announcing sweeping new crackdowns on immigration and certain refugee populations.

Trump announced on his own social media platform that his administration will, quote, permanently

pause migration from all third world countries. The Trump administration has also said that it

will review green card holders from countries on its travel ban list. And just last night,

the State Department announced that it has, quote, immediately paused visa issuance for individuals

traveling on Afghan passports. The head of the U.S. citizenship and immigration services

made a similar announcement around the same time on eggs, saying, quote, USCIS has halted all asylum

decisions until we can ensure that every alien is vetted and screened to the

maximum degree possible. The Trump administration also says it will review asylum requests
