President Donald Trump is expanding his so-called crackdown on crime.

Yesterday, he signed an executive order calling for the creation of specialized National

Guard units to be deployed around the U.S.

Under the order, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegeseth would be in charge

of the troops, establishing a quick reaction force that would, quote, be available for rapid

nationwide deployment. Trump has suggested that Chicago may be the first target of such

a deployment, but Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker has already pushed back.

It is illegal. It is unconstitutional. It is un-American.

Pritzker also said that the administration had failed to contact his office or the mayor

ahead of the reported deployment, and he slammed the lack of coordination, suggesting it

shows the move is not really about

crime.
