Kilmar Abregor Garcia, the Maryland man unlawfully deported to El Salvador by ICE earlier this year,

will remain in the U.S. for now.

CNN's Priscilla Alvarez explains.

A federal judge in Maryland said Monday that she will soon order officials to keep Kilmer-Abrego-Gio Garcia in the U.S. while she weighs a new legal challenge from him to the Trump

administration's plans to quickly deport him to Uganda.

Earlier in the day, Abraio Garcia turned himself into immigration and customs enforcement

and now remains in their custody.

The U.S. district judge said during a brief hearing Monday that she's planning to stretch

out an existing hold on Abrao Garcia's removal.

She can more fully consider whether officials are violating his due process rights, including

by deporting him to Uganda, even after he said he fears being persecuted or tortured in the

African nation.
