President Donald Trump has left the G7 early and returned to Washington, saying he needs to monitor the crisis between Israel and Iran.

He had originally planned to stay in Canada until later today, but the summit had already generated

some division in the few hours Trump attended.

In a joint statement, G7 leaders called for a resolution to the tensions in the Middle East,

which an official familiar with the matter said had gained the support of Trump, but only after

language in the draft was adjusted.

CNN has reached out to the White House for comments about that.

And Trump also took aim at French President Emmanuel Macron, who had earlier said the

U.S. president was working on a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.

And so if the United States of America can achieve a ceasefire, it is a very good thing,

and France will support it, and we wish for it.
