I am Stephanie Ruhl, and it is day 275 of the second Trump administration.

Right now, hundreds of thousands of American federal workers are going unpaid, and many of them are still going to work every day.

Over the weekend, we saw a historically huge protest against the president. Of course, it was called

the O'Kings movement. And with all of that going on, the president is reportedly trying to get

the Justice Department to now pay him $230 million in taxpayer money. Yes, this is happening. According to

the New York Times, the president filed

administrative complaints with the department related to previous investigations involving him,

including the Mar-a-Lago search for classified documents. The department then will decide to either

settle those complaints, meaning pay, or go to court. But of course, in this case, the people

making those decisions in the Department of Justice are Donald Trump's handpicked DOJ leaders,

some of whom were his personal lawyers during those investigations. Experts say it would be a massive

conflict of interest. And as the Times reports,

compensation is typically covered by the taxpayers. Two people familiar with the claims told the
