I'm Krista Bow with the five things you need to know for Tuesday, March 18th.

Gaza has experienced its deadliest day in over 15 months by CNN's count,

as Israel resumed the war with a deadly wave of airstrikes on the enclave from the north to the south.

Gaza health officials say Israel's attack has killed over 400 people and wounded hundreds more.

Israel's foreign minister said the strikes are in response to Hamas rejecting two mediation proposals presented by the U.S.,

involving the release of more hostages.

Concrete proposals made by the American Special Envoy to extend the ceasefire.

Hamas said no.

So with no other choice, Israel is forced to carry out this activity.

Hamas has strongly rejected Israeli claims that it violated the ceasefire and was preparing

attacks on Israel.

The militant group seems to be holding their fire for now as fighting resumes.

While the ceasefire in Gaza breaks, the U.S. wants another one to start in Ukraine.

As we were recording this, President Donald Trump was on the phone with his Russian counterpart

Vladimir Putin about ending the war in Ukraine.
