That's President Donald Trump today, addressing the on-again, off-again nature of his tariff strategy.

Trump also spoke about his one-month pause on auto-tariffs for Mexico and Canada.

It's just a little bit of a one-month reprieve. They're very happy about what's happening.

Trump has threatened fresh tariffs on Canada, including a tax on lumber and a 250% tax on dairy products.

These could come into effect as early as today.

He also hinted that he was prepared to expand tariffs on other trading partners

if he doesn't see an adjustment in trade policies,

asserting that the US has, quote, been ripped off by every country in the world.

The US has threatened new sanctions on Russia.

In a truth social post, Trump said he is considering, quote, large-scale banking sanctions

and tariffs on Russia until a ceasefire and final settlement agreement on peace is reached.

This is in response to Moscow's continued bombardment of Ukraine and marks

a major shift in tone from Trump after weeks of conciliatory statements towards Russia and Putin.

Speaking to reporters earlier, Trump said the following.

As you know, we're meeting in Saudi Arabia on sometime next week early. And we're talking, I find that in terms of getting a final

settlement, it may be easier dealing with Russia, which is surprising because they have all the cards.

Trump also said that, quote, anyone in Putin's position would be bombarding Ukraine like this.

Trump's top economist, Kevin Hass Hassett had earlier told reporters that proposed sanctions on Russia

was an effort to bring parties to the negotiating table to end the war in Ukraine.
