This is Michael Cohen and you're listening to the Mayor Culper podcast. We'll call

it a split decision folks. But the first hearing in the criminal case against Donald Trump

for his attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election got underway Friday in Washington,

DC. And presiding over the bench was US District Judge Tanya Chutkin who issued a warning

shot to Trump and his legal team that the more inflammatory statements he makes connected

to the case, the greater the urgency will be to move the case quickly to trial. The basis

of the Friday hearing was to hear oral arguments relating to special prosecutor Jack Smith's

motion for a protective order, barring Trump from revealing evidence he encounters in discovery

or intimidating or threatening witnesses. While Chutkin agreed with Trump's defense

team on a loose aversion of a protective order for evidence in the case, she largely

sided with the prosecution on what sensitive materials should be protected. She rejected

prosecutors' broader protective order proposal that sought to prevent the public release

of all evidence that they hand over to Trump's defense as they prepare for trial. She instead

seemed poised to impose a more limited protective order that would bar the public release only

of materials deemed sensitive, such as grand jury materials. Judge Chutkin also pushed back
