| 0:00.7 | Welcome to the beat. |
| 0:02.1 | Tonight we begin with news out of the Trump DOJ, which undercuts the entire department's credibility on the rule of law. |
| 0:09.7 | A line crossed. |
| 0:12.1 | Tonight we can report the federal executive branch is charging a federal legislative branch member. |
| 0:18.0 | That alone is a first in this already sometimes chaotic Trump term. |
| 0:22.7 | And the charges themselves are very unusual. Indeed, according to precedent, they are flimsyer |

| 1:26.0 | involve members of either party, say one of the recent Democratic |
| 1:29.9 | members of Congress who faced corruption charges and was later convicted, Bob Menendez. |
| 1:34.4 | You didn't have that kind of really clear rebuttal of the underlying case. |
| 1:40.1 | And that's important because part of the game here is trying to create mud or confusion in the |
| 1:46.2 | perspective of what happened so that you don't really know whether this is a political case. |
| 1:51.3 | And a lot of legal experts, the ACLU today says this is an improper partisan political case. |
