Humanitarian officials are warning that people could die after the Trump administration

suddenly stopped almost all U.S. foreign aid.

The sweeping order from Secretary of State Marco Rubio brought dozens of programs to a halt,

from global health to emergency shelter to counter-trafficking.

It called for almost all existing efforts to stop, funds to be frozen, and future projects

to be put on hold, with the only exceptions being emergency food assistance and foreign

military finance for Israel and Egypt. But Rubio issued a waiver yesterday for, quote,

life-saving humanitarian assistance, including medicine, food, shelter and supplies.

The White House is also facing backlash for trying to pause all federal grants in the US.

The policy was due to start yesterday, but a judge has temporarily blocked it while she considers

challenges from a group of nonprofits.

Democratic Senators Chuck Schumer and Chris Murphy criticized the plan.

This is cruelty.
