Hans asked Jim to fetch him some wine, telling him brandy was too strong. This raised Jim's suspicions, but he went below deck

and snuck back up on the other side in time to see hands hauling himself on his wounded leg

over to a coil of rope and retrieving a long dagger,

hiding it in his jacket. When Jim emerged, it was time to guide the ship into the narrow inlet,

with hands instructing him from the deck.

During this time, Jim had forgotten to keep an eye on the coxswain, who had approached from behind,
