but to know that the doctor and Captain Smollett had renounced him for his desertion.

He said that the doctor came to them, showed them the ship had gone,

they had been too drunk to realise, and bargained with silver.

In return for the stockade and supplies, Silver had let them go without harm. Jim told Silver that if they let him go too,

he would help them avoid the gallows on their return to England. While the rest of the crew

were ready to kill Jim, Silver protected him.

The mutineers were dissatisfied with their captain and took a council outside,

returning with the black spot, demanding Silver be deposed.
