Hi from CNN, I'm Josh and Shana with the five things you need to know for Thursday,

November 6th.

As we're now in day 37 of the government shutdown, the US may be on the brink of travel chaos.

The FAA says it will slash 10% of air traffic at 40 major airports nationwide as early as tomorrow if no shutdown deal is reached,

potentially cutting thousands of flights per day.

The National Transportation Safety Board Chair Jennifer Harmondi has praised Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy for the move,

saying on X, it's safety management and the right thing to do. The FAA is also reporting air traffic control staffing shortages today,

with delays reported at major airports in Washington, New York and Detroit, among others.

Air traffic controllers, by the way, received their $0 pay stub today for the second time since the shutdown began.

So where are we at with shutdown negotiations?

While some centrist Democrats are actively trying to hammer out a deal with Republicans,

others emboldened by the success in Tuesday's elections are calling to hold out until

there's a victory on funding health care premiums.

Just listen to what Bernie Sanders said

to CNN about the election results.

There is a revolt against Trumpism. I think Democrats have the momentum. And now what has got to

happen is Trump has got to come to the table and say, okay, let's make sure that premiums do not go

up. He does that.

We can end the shutdown tomorrow."

Now to some concerning news from the job market, a report has found layoff announcements surged

last month, making it the worst October in 22 years.

And the report from Challenger Gray in Christmas lays the blame in part on disruptive technology.
