Summary

Tony Latham is a retired game warden with 25 years’ experience working undercover on some of Idaho’s wildest public lands and in pursuit of some of the West’s nastiest wildlife criminals. Undercover work is a total immersion in a subculture: of cheap alcohol and casual violence, dive bars and broken people, slaughtered fish and wildlife, and coldly professional violators. The job exacts its own price, and nobody could ever say they do it for the pay. It’s only for the truly committed, those who believe in hunting and fishing and wildlife conservation as basic to the American way of life and who are willing to put their lives on the line to make sure it endures. 0:16.7	way back from a sage planting job with the Mueller Foundation, and was able to connect with Tony Latham, who I had been reading his books for quite a while.

1:00.0	He also's author two mystery novels that I haven't read, Five Fingers and Seven Dead Fish.

1:12.4	book right now called Building a Tier Drop trailer, which is takes the art of building a tear drop trailer into a kind of stratospheric realm.

1:30.0	and listening to these stories of life and tribulation for sure as an undercover game
1:36.0	warden in some of the best country left in the world. Two little preemptory corrections that I made, both of my mistakes of my own.
1:47.0	One is that the book we were talking about late in the podcast was not Robert Rourke's, you know, old man in the boy, but a book that I had in my
1:57.4	childhood called a boy and his gun written in a 50s where the boy does walk. It's still a good book, the boy does walk around and pretty much smokes a wide variety of wildlife with his gun.
