Summary

Tony Audenshaw is best known for playing Emmerdale’s Bob Hope and it’s fair to say he loves running. In fact he’s loves running so much, he’s run more marathons than he’s had wives (in the show obviously) - and that’s a lot!!! This week he gets his RunPod Run Club membership and chats about why he loves getting out there in his trainers, rain or shine. We discuss fitting running in around your work schedule, an issue many of us have to deal with, and also give an insight into racing in fancy dress. Tony has run in costume multiple times and shares the joys and the challenges of doing so. It’s a great listen, and might even encourage you to sign up for a run dressed as a rhino... Enjoy and happy running! X

Hi there, Jenny Faulkner back with you to keep you company as you run or get ready to run or

0:08.8

perhaps think about maybe going for a run. This is Run Pod, the run club of the podcast world.

And today I am joined by someone who has been a runner for many years and he's really good at it too.

0:22.5

You might know him best as Bob Hope and there's a good chance he's on your telly several times

a week. I am of course referring to Tony Auden Shaw who is in Emerdale. Hello there. How are you?

0:35.7

I'm pretty good. I'd give it a good eight out of ten today,

0:38.6

which is, you know, not bad, better than a seven. Oh, I like that. How about you? Where are you? Yeah, I think, do you know, I think I'm maybe about a nine or maybe, yeah, maybe a nine today. Feeling good. That's a special day, a nine for me. It's rare, rare but special. A ten, obviously. That's just the odd moment of great, great joy, great success.

0:38.3

You know, rare but special. A 10, obviously, that's just the odd moment of great,

1:11.7

great joy, great success, you know, dodging something. I'm totally with you on that. A 10, I would probably give a 10 when I've run home from work and I've done it in a really good time and I'm smiling and I'm happy and I'm not totally out of breath. So that would be a 10 day, but today yeah, nine and nine would work well for me. And thank you so much for coming on Run Pod. And I know that you're very busy at the moment as well. So today's a day off from Emmerdale. Is that right? Yeah, I'm not in today. Sometimes you're busy, sometimes you're quiet and I'm not in at all today. I'm back in tomorrow at a past seven, but I'm enjoying looking out of my window at the rain right now.

1:27.6

Contemplating a run later today. I love that. I love that you

1:33.4

look out the window, see rain and are not put off, because a lot of people will be like,

1:37.4

oh well, won't be doing that then today. Look at the rain. Does anything put you off going for a run?

1:42.7

Rain. I've got to say, I do prefer it when it's not raining, and then it starts raining when you're out on the rung. If it's tipping it down, I'm never that great at getting out the door. But actually, when I'm out doing it, I quite enjoy it. Ice, I'm not a big fan of ice, you know, and it's really slippery underfoot because you've

2:01.3

always got the risk of getting injured, falling over a hit, you know, breaking something. How about you? When do you not rum? I, if it's torrential, then I would probably be reluctant to go out. But as you say, if you're out already and then it starts raining, it's a different matter entirely, and you're willing to kind of carry on.

1:59.3

After all, you're only getting wet

2:00.9

and your skin starts raining. It's a different matter entirely. And you're willing to kind of carry on.

2:18.5

After all, you're only getting wet, and your skin's waterproof, isn't it?

2:22.3

So if you're dressed appropriately, it's not too bad.

2:25.8

I don't like running in snow and ice,

2:27.9

but primarily because I've got this thing called Raynor's syndrome

2:30.7

and my hands and feet, the blood stops circulating and it gets cold. So you will often

2:36.7

see me in winter when it's beautiful sunny weather, but freezing. I have been outrunning many
