Hello and welcome to the Sophie Ridge on Sunday podcast,

with Theresa May's plan for a softer Brexit causing ruckians in the Conservative Party

and Donald Trump making waves on his visit to Britain.

I spoke to Labour's deputy leader Tom Watson.

Now for months, Theresa May has been accused of dither and delay over Brexit, trying to keep everyone happy and refusing to pick a side.

But not anymore. The plan signed off by her cabinet at Chequers was clear.

She wants a much softer Brexit than she was advocating 18 months ago.

She still wants to leave the single market and the customs

union and to end free movement, but she wants us to stay tied to EU rules in some areas.

She's open to pretty liberal migration and there's still a reasonable role for the European

Court to play. It's an attempt to unblock talks with Brussels and also an acknowledgement

that businesses

are desperate for certainty and continuity. But picky aside was always going to have consequences

and the Brexiteers are predictably pretty peed off. They're so annoyed, in fact, that David Davis,

Boris Johnson and Brexit Minister Steve Baker have all resigned. So the PM now faces the prospect of defeats

in Parliament this week and the fact that she may not have the votes to pass a final deal.
