This week on the podcast I have with me, Dr. Sam Stevens

and Dr. Francine Tan, and we're answering some of your questions. And man, this has become one of

my favorite things for us to do is to hear questions that are on your heart and ways that we can

help distinguish, whether that be practically or biblically in our thinking.

So I'm going to pitch a question and I'm going to give it to you exactly the way that it came in.

And I want us to just have a little conversation about this. And I think these terms are important.

Here's the question, the way it came in. What are some pros and cons for using the term discipleship rather than the term counseling. It's a very simple

question in its nature, but there are a lot of different ways to think about this. So

pros and cons in using this term discipleship rather than the term counseling. Well, one thing that

comes to my mind, maybe this would fit in the pro category,

is obviously, discipleship communicates the central aim and purpose and goals of what we're

accomplishing. I mean, just as Christians, as faithful Christians, but obviously in the

endeavor of soul care and counseling, counseling, the term has a lot of baggage since modern

psychology. And we definitely have to, I find myself frequently having to make sure my counselorses understand what counseling is.

We do that typically during the first session.

And discipleship is something that's obviously a biblical term that's found in scripture, speaks about our relationship with Jesus and the general trajectory of our

lives. So I think that's one pro, is that it more readily speaks to what the Bible talks about

and uses language that's more accessible in scriptures than counseling. Yeah, so let's stay on the

pro train for a second. I think that would be helpful. And I'll say, I think there are pros to using
