So here's the background for Philippi basic, basic background. Paul is on his second missionary journey.

So the primary purpose is, well, twofold. Number one, he wants to confirm the churches that were founded in the first

missionary journey. Remember the schism between him and Barnabas, and Barnabas actually ends up taking

Mark and they go their way, but Silas, one of the delegates from Jerusalem, who's also tasked with helping the Jews and

the Gentiles understand that they are now one body in Christ, and there's some give and take.

Remember the Jerusalem Council?

So they have these letters.

So Paul and Silas are now leaving Antioch, and they're coming to confirm the churches in

Galacia, Iconium, Listra, Derby.

When they go to Listra, they find Timothy.

And it's interesting because the Bible says,

him would Paul take with them?

So Timothy's this young man. Interestingly, Paul and Barnabas had a young man,

John Mark, and they disagreed about him. And Barnabas took John Mark and went his way. And

Timothy was in that sense John Mark's replacement as the young mentee.

And you would think, wow, such divisiveness in ministry.

But is it not interesting that John Mark actually ended up being a very profitable servant?

And Paul said in 2nd Timothy Chapter 4, to Timothy, Timothy Demas left. He went to Thessalonica.

I want you to come right now and bring Mark. He's profitable. So think about it. Mark's replacement
